“A fresh new breeze has blown through the quilting world thanks to fabric designers like Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett and Michael Miller. Today’s quilters often take traditional patterns and reinvent them with bold new prints and color palettes. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to quilt, but thought it was too intimidating or a bit fussy and musty for you, then the Charleston Museum has the beginner class for you! Taught by friendly Museum staff, this three-session workshop will give you a firm foundation in traditional hand and machine piecing and basic appliqué skills, as well as the tools and knowledge to make your project as trendy or as traditional as you choose. The workshop project will be a 40″ x 54” quilt perfect for a baby quilt, lap quilt or wall hanging. Learn a variety of piecing techniques, along with finishing techniques and hand quilting. See historic quilts from the Museum’s collection and tour the Museum’s textile storage area.
Participants provide their own supplies and some tools. The Museum will supply patterns and larger tools.
Instructors: Jan Hiester and Rachel Chesser
Note: we also offer this workshop on Wednesdays; click here for details.”
Reservations are required.
